This episode delves into ‘Canada Leading by Example’ on developing a risk-based approach to improving both financial inclusion for survivors and financial investigations into modern slavery, in particular human trafficking.

The Lessons from Canada’s Approach to Extending Financial Access to Survivors of Modern Slavery briefing provides practical insights and lessons for the financial sector, including supervisors and regulators, based on the Public Private Partnership (PPP) approach taken by Canada to increase financial access for people with lived experience (‘survivors’) of modern slavery.

FAST published Lessons from the Survivor Inclusion Initiative (SII) in the UK, US, and Canada,Business Banking and Start-Up Support for Survivors of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking, and Credit repair for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking. These reports are available in English, French, and Spanish.

On 30 September until 6 October 2021, FAST hosted four Survivor Inclusion Initiative 30-minute webinars focused on the guidance for new and continued participation and best practices in supporting survivors being referred for financial services.

On 23 June, the Survivor Inclusion Initiative hosted a training webinar on trauma sensitivity with Lara Powers for participating institutions.

On 3 December, FAST held a webinar outlining best practices and successful approaches from the Survivor Inclusion Initiative.

In partnership with Bank of America, the FAST Survivor Inclusion Initiative has developed a financial literacy guide outlining important banking basics, such as how to use checking and savings accounts and the simple steps that can be taken to protect financial information. This guide is available in English and Spanish.

This episode of Finance Against Slavery and Trafficking: The Podcast focuses on how the financial sector can empower survivors of modern slavery including a discussion of the FAST Survivor Inclusion Initiative, how it works, and the resources it provides to its members.

On 12 May, FAST hosted a virtual launch for “A Survivor’s Guide to Money,” a new book focuses on practical lessons for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking in their path to financial independence.
